Projects
Overhauling Kmart’s BuyPlan
Over the course of two years, Peng was involved in overhauling Kmart’s BuyPlan, which is part of their merchandising platform. The main goal was to plan, order and manage vendor capacity. As part of this project, Peng and his team were able to increase code coverage from ~30% to ~65% (90% for new features), as well as reducing the number of store features (originally more than 200), by over 50%. They were also able to double business units and extracted microservices from the previous monolithic design.
Rebuilding a 30-year-old System in Java for ARIX
While at ARIX (APAC Regulatory Information eXchange), Peng was involved in improving the way they reconciled information. Billions of dollars per year were moved through ARIX’s architecture; however, their system was 30 years old. While part of the team, Peng was involved in rebuilding their system in Java, within 18 months, which meant that auto-reconciliation was possible at a speed of 700 transactions per second. The result was a saving of 4 FTE per year, on reconciliation, as well as a number of savings elsewhere.
